At an opulent international peace summit, two rival heads of state sit stiffly across from each other at a gleaming conference table carved from a glacier. They ceremoniously sign a ceasefire treaty over rights to dwindling fresh water, with cameras flashing and tiny desk flags standing upright in the ice. But the table is actively melting: rivulets run through the engraved border, aides in suits scramble beneath with buckets and mops, and a widening crack snakes directly under the signed document. In the background, staff quietly wheel in more towels as everyone maintains the pomp of diplomacy, pretending the collapsing table is a minor inconvenience rather than the real crisis.
