Ribbon-Cutting the Seawall

Corporate climate hypocrisy dressed up as resilience marketing: the same moneyed interests celebrating 'green' coastal luxury are quietly admitting climate danger is real by walling themselves off from it, while continuing the emissions-driving model behind the threat.

A polished ribbon-cutting ceremony for a new luxury beachfront development: executives in crisp suits and sunglasses beam on a driftwood-toned stage wrapped in eco-chic branding like 'Resilient Coastal Living' and leaf icons. They hold oversized gold scissors over a green ribbon stretched across the entrance. But the ribbon is actually tied between fresh concrete forms of a massive seawall being poured immediately behind them by hard-hatted crews. Beyond the wall, high tide is visibly pressing in, with waves licking at construction equipment and investor banners. Brochures and signage tout 'sustainability' while small-print phrases or visual cues link the project’s financiers to smokestacks, private jets, and funded emissions. The joke lands in one frame: they are ceremonially opening paradise while simultaneously building a fortress to survive the consequences of the system that made the deal profitable.
