Digital Detox Charging Station

Wellness culture sells disconnection as a luxury experience, but the participants remain emotionally and psychologically captive to their devices; even 'detox' becomes just another curated form of dependence management rather than real escape.

A pristine, high-end wellness retreat styled like a minimalist meditation studio: pale wood, plants, folded blankets, and a serene neon motto on the wall reading 'UNPLUG TO RECONNECT.' In front of it, a row of affluent guests sit cross-legged on yoga mats with exaggeratedly calm poses but visibly tense faces, sneaking glances upward. Along one wall, their phones are supposedly surrendered into neat wooden detox lockers labeled with names, yet each locker is threaded with charging cables that merge into a tangled power strip like life support. Dominating the room is a large, spa-like digital display showing each guest’s phone battery percentage slowly rising, and everyone is watching it with the anxious focus of a stock ticker or heart monitor. A meditation instructor gently rings a chime in the foreground while being ignored.
